Biography

The Might of Milo

Milo of Croton was the most celebrated wrestler of the Ancient world, winning six Olympic titles. His feats of strength were legendary, such as carrying a four - year - old bull on his shoulders through the stadium before eating the entire animal in a single day. He was a student of the philosopher Pythagoras and once saved a collapsing building by holding up the central pillar while everyone escaped.

A Fatal Hubris

Despite his physical prowess, Milo met a bizarre and gruesome end. While walking alone in the woods as an old man, he came across a partially split tree trunk held open by wedges. To test if he still possessed his famous strength, he attempted to rip the tree apart with his bare hands. However, the wedges fell out and the trunk snapped shut, trapping his hands in the wood. Unable to free himself, the once - invincible athlete was defenseless and was eventually eaten by a pack of wolves.
