Ancient
Monument
One of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, this massive engineering marvel guided ships for centuries before being destroyed by a series of earthquakes.
Known as the Pharos of Alexandria, this towering lighthouse was one of the most ambitious engineering feats of the ancient world. Standing over 100 metres tall, it utilized a massive mirror to reflect sunlight by day and a fire by night, making its light visible for up to 30 miles out at sea. For over a millennium, it was the landmark that defined the Mediterranean trade. However, the monument was eventually undone by the very earth beneath it. A series of massive earthquakes between 956 and 1323 AD severely damaged the structure, eventually causing it to crumble into ruins. Its remains were eventually repurposed into a fortress by local rulers. The site of this legendary wonder now rests partially underwater, serving as a reminder of the fragility of even the most colossal human accomplishments in the face of nature.
